Welcome

I, Sigrúnn Gilraen, bid you welcome to a new blog here on World of Middle Earth that is all about the new Amazon Series launching on the 2nd of September this year. Once there is any new information about the series you will hear it from me first (hopefully). My goal is to share with you my own excitement for this series and hopefully get you just as excited! Of course these articles might contain a few spoilers for those who want to avoid them at all cost. In that case, although I'm happy you clicked on the article, it might be best not to read further!

The Basics

Release Date: 2nd of September, 2022
Streaming Platform: Amazon Prime
Episodes: 8 (season 1)
Storyline: This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone. —Amazon Studios

Latest News

First of all, let us start with some casting news. If you have checked the IMDB website you will see that we're not quite sure yet of who might be playing who. Still, cast members are dropping a few hints here and there, so these are my suspicions for now:
In the series we will see a 'young' Galadriel, and although I am extremely sad that we will not see our Queen Cate Blanchett return in her role, it is said that Morfydd Clark will be taking over that role. Makes me curious.
Trystan Gravelle, who some might know as the former actor of Baldwin de Clermont from a Discovery of Witches, has hinted the look of his character on Instagram. A dwarf? An older human? Do you have any idea who he could be portraying? Photo Link
Then we have Owain Arthur who has been revealed to play a major dwarven character! Namely Durin himself, super exciting!
There are a lot of big names that have not been revealed yet, although there are enough hints that they will make an appearance in the show, like: Isildur (Isildur's sister, an original character by Amazon will be played by Ema Horvath), Gil-Galad, Celebrimbor, and even king Elendil. Looking at the current cast. Who would you cast for these roles?

A trailer, I know we're all waiting (im)patiently for one. At least I am. Sadly we do not yet know when one might drop. Hopefully soon, but alas. For now the series title reveal is the only visual we have at the moment (apart from the sneaky photo with the two trees in the background). Fun fact, do you remember Cate Blanchett's voice at the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring? Rumour has that this voice-over was done by Morfydd Clark, Galadriel's younger actress. Have you not yet seen this very teasing trailer? Go watch it here!

That's it for today! What do you think of the current reveals? Is there something you would like me to discuss in a next instalment of this blog (funds, hopes & wishes for the series, fears, etc?), or do you have any news to share? Don't hesitate to let me know!
