Step 1 – The mobile
Here you can choose between a automatically moving pre-built set for a mobile, which you only have to put together and then you can attach your pendant's which you will craft in step 3.

I decided to do a macramé mobile. Therefore, I used three wooden rings, which I firstly wrapped carefully with the macramé wool. For the beginning you just cross-wrapp it one or two times, it will be strong enough to stay where it is meant to be. Then you wrap, wrap, wrap wrap, and the end of the wool you glue to the wood ring with the hot glue. Just carefully cut the wool clean, you won't see the end at the final product.

Step 2 – Connecting the Rings
Now that we have the wrapped rings, you can think about how to connect them. I decided to hang them up horizontal. So I put some strings in equal length and knoted the rings with equal distance to the other together. In the end of the strings I also attached some wooden pearls as decoration. Here you can be as creative as you want but I'd advise you to get a helping hand maybe or for example try to make the construction to hang the first ring up correctly first and then work on the hanging item. The reason is easy: You can easily create a very unique and artificial but crooked mobile and that could indeed look a bit strange finally! It can be quite difficult and the wool doesn't make it too easy as well. But I am sure you can get it done!

Step 3 – Modelling the figures

After we have finished our mobile, we can now start with the figures you put underneath hanging. I did Gandalf's hat, a sword and a eagle's head, since a whole eagle would've been quite tall.
If you want to make papier-mâché yourself, you are free to do so. You just have to keep in mind that you need a bit more stiff material so you can form it properly. Furthermore you should try to find underground to dry on but not to stick on permanently. For example you can use clingfilm as underground or a matt you use for modelling.

With the figures you are as free as you want. I did three, , which almost weight the same so I can balance the weight on the mobile. I also tried to attach a structure e.g. on the sword and on the eagle's head, so you can simply paint it in the end! You can also use some water to get the surface smooth and nicely. Let completely dry before doing anything else with the figures again!

Additional note: Depending on the place, the thickness and the consistency of your papier-mâché the drying time can take up to a week. It is a project of much patience, I hope you have much more than I had. And if you use pre-mixed papier-mâche the first time just like I did, maybe consider that the drying time on the package is totally wrong! Mine honestly took seven days to dry. Step 4 – Painting and Hooking

For the last step, before you start to paint, use some sand paper to smoothen the sharp edges of your items. They will look much better as well and won't hurt while working on them. You can paint the items with acrylic paint in any style you want and simply let dry. I just choose a very natural look for each item. When the paint is dry, don't forget to cover it in clear coat so the colours will be protected and you also can clean them from dust etc.

Finally, you put some hooks and ears in the items. Usually you can simply screw them into the material, you may use some fast drying glue to get it attached for a long, long time. Just imagine, it would fall down on the baby! Oh boy. However, we're now ready to attach the items to the mobile. Therefore, hang up the mobile first and get someone to help you maybe who can help you to keep the mobile even while you are attaching the other items. Make sure that the weight is equal to all sides so the mobile keeps hanging straight and on one level.

After we have done that, we can also attach some fairy lights. I just choose a very long and delicate kind of fairy lights. The little box with batteries and the switch you can maybe place anywhere upwards the baby so it won't have any cable near it's head or even more dangerous hands. And here we go for a dreamy LotR-Mobile!
