The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen
We all know them, remember them, don't we? Perhaps the name of the late King Aragorn II sounds a little more familiar than his elven wife, but alas. It is actually a beautiful tale that not many still remember, it seems. Thus, let me refresh your minds. Hay is definitely not supposed to go there-

The poor man's father was killed by orcs, which resulted in Aragorn moving to live win this mother , Gilraen (are we related? Not that I know of?), in Rivendell. One faithful day he came across the lady Arwen, an elven maiden so fair he immediately mistook her for Luthien herself. Mind you, the lass was only in his twenties at the time. He was lovestruck, the silly boy, and although he soon left Rivendell to fight against Sauron's forces for thirty long years, he never forgot about her, despite his mother's warnings.

His heart yearned for peace and thus he decided to retreat to Lorien, not knowing he would find the lady Arwen there. It was there they pledged their love for each other.

Although uncommon for elves to wait that long for marriage, they did not wed until after the War of the Ring and he was crowned king. Many decades they spend blissfully in each other's presence, but Aragorn, albeit one of the Dunadain, was still mortal and his life would eventually come to an end. We all heard about his passing, and how the throne was passed on to his son, Eldarion, but do you know what happened to the lady Arwen, a high-born elf?

After Aragorn passed grief took the poor woman's heart. Having said her goodbyes to Eldarion Arwen left for Lorien where she was said to dwell alone there under the fading trees until winter came. She accepted mortality like Luthien once had, and therefore accepted death as her fate. Before spring came she laid herself down upon Cerin Amroth, and her body remains there to this day, until the world will see its end.

Thank you for joining me today. My name is Sigrúnn Gilraen. I live in a small village located not too far from Edoras. I work at a local tavern, which allows me to pick up a few interesting stories so every now and then. These stories I love to share with you in this weekly blog: Sig's Silmarils.

Arda's rich lore. Every month shall bring you a different story. Do you wish to visit the tavern to bring me a tale or two I can share with our other travellers? You are always welcome to send me a beacon...
