Step 1 – Pyrography
For the wooden plates, I decided to find out my personal birth rune and name rune first. Depending on your first language the way of finding out differs and so do the runes. However, y'all could find out and pyrograph your runes as well! After that I carefully draw them with a pencil on the pieces I want to turn into my jewelry and plug the iron in to heat up. Be careful with your desk. The sondering iron becomes very, very hot and you should put more than just a protecting table cloth on it. Better is a thick matt to protect your desk from heat and fire.

Before you got started on the little plates, after the soldering iron heated up, you should practice a bit. Therefore, take a greater plate and do some runes or whatever to practice and find out how quick you can glide on the surface. Furthermore you can experiment a bit with pressure and so on. When you grooved in a bit, you can start on your actual pieces. Be careful, the sondering iron gets insanely hot. And take your time. To pyrograph consistent but natural, you need a little practice, some calm hand and a little time.

Step 2 – Making Jewelry
First of all, you have to find an way to get a eyelet or a jump ring into that little plate of wood. Here I decided to use a drill, a very fine one, to make a precise and small hole, which is perfectly usable for a jump ring, which is the basis of our necklace or also ear piece! After slowly start drilling, you can speed up and drill through the little plate. Be aware of your fingers. We don't want to drill ourselves of course.

Now we can put the jump ring in. The string you can cut of in a length that goes easily over your head, of course you can do a very long necklace but also a shorter one. That's totally up to you. I love necklaces a bit longer, since I am tall, too. Short necklaces always look a bit strange, especially causal ones. Whatsoever, you can knot it onto the jump ring in the middle, like I did, and also add an wooden pearl, which I also secured with a double knot.

For the ear piece I used hanging hooks, because the plates are quite easy and I personally don't like to glue the wood pieces to an ear stud, because it also falls of easily and I don't want to lose it. So I decided to do hanging ear pieces!

Step 3 – Tying the Knot

I guess, we all hate too long necklaces or also want to determine by yourself how long you want to have the necklace for example. Here I found a nicely pictured version of the Double Fisherman, which originally comes from nautical language and today is one of the most used knots for necklaces or braceletts with leather band or something similar without a clasp. This knot is a bit difficult if you do it for the first time and very thick leather or very smooth material might not be able to be knotted (and stay) this way. You may try this knot first and prove it's strength and how it moves first, before you give that necklace as a present for example.

But finally I have some cute pieces here, I am very happy with! They are personal, original and have wonderful meanings. I definitely can recommend to read the details of your birth rune.
